MAGNETIC SORTERS
Magnetic sorters combine one or more magnetic drums inside a stainless steel housing, designed to channel the material towards the surface of the drum. Test in English
Compared to exposed drums, they represent a compact and integrated solution, ideal for ensuring precise ferrous separation while containing the processed material.
The material enters the casing through a feed point, is conveyed onto the magnetic drum and separated: ferrous metals, attracted by the magnetic field, are released into the first outlet, while the non-magnetic fraction continues to the second discharge. The double-outlet configuration ensures a clean and efficient sorting process.
They can be equipped with ferrite, neodymium or hybrid (Fe/Nd) drums, sized according to the material to be processed and the required precision. Multi-stage versions are also available, with two or more drums in series to increase separation efficiency.
They are used in numerous industrial applications: from glass processing to the sorting of recyclable plastics (films, PET, rigid), from the cleaning of shredded wood to the food industry, separating ferrous components from seeds, flours or grains, up to WEEE processing lines.
MAGNETIC SORTERS DETAILS
How are they structured?
Magnetic sorters consist of a closed stainless steel housing, designed to contain and guide the material flow towards the magnetic drum, optimizing separation efficiency while reducing dispersion and contamination.
The core of the machine is one or more rotating magnetic drums, strategically positioned in relation to the feed point and discharge outlets.
The drums can be built with ferrite, neodymium, or mixed-combination magnets, depending on the required magnetic strength and the nature of the material to be processed.
The material is directed onto the drum shell through a chute that controls and channels the incoming flow.
The structure features two separate outlets: one for ferrous material attracted by the drum, and one for non-magnetic material that continues along its natural trajectory.
How does a magnetic sorter work?
The material to be processed is fed into the stainless steel housing through an inlet opening and directed in a controlled manner towards the active magnetic surface of the drum.
Ferrous materials such as nails, washers, metallic dust or contaminated metal parts are attracted by the magnetic field and held on the drum shell until the release point, where the field weakens and the drum discharges them into a dedicated outlet.
The non-magnetic material, unaffected by the field, follows its natural trajectory — generally vertical with respect to the feed opening — and falls into its own dedicated outlet.
The separation efficiency depends on:
- the intensity and depth of the magnetic field (ferrite or neodymium);
- the drum rotation speed;
- the particle size and distribution of the processed material (layering).
In multi-stage models, the material passes over multiple drums in series, allowing the removal of residual ferrous particles with greater accuracy.
Available types and sizes.
Magnetic drums are available in different configurations, each designed to adapt to specific application requirements:
- Ferrite magnet drums: generate a wide and deep magnetic field, ideal for removing medium-to-large ferrous metals, even when they are not in direct contact with the drum surface. They are a cost-effective and efficient choice for standard applications.
- Neodymium magnet drums: provide a much more intense magnetic field, concentrated close to the surface. They are particularly suitable for intercepting small, thin, or weakly magnetic ferrous particles, such as those present in fine fractions or light materials.
It is important to emphasize that, for each drum type, the magnetic field is custom-sized according to the specific application, by varying the layering of the magnets and the pole configuration (pick-up, transport, or mixed). This allows us to deliver the optimal magnetic strength depending on the type of material to be processed and the installation mode.
Main Features.
- Available in different sizes and configurations: these separators are available in various dimensions, linked to the throughput and particle size of the incoming material, to adapt to plant requirements.
- Custom magnetic field: designed case by case, according to the material to be processed and the separation targets.
- High deferrization efficiency: with the possibility of series installations to achieve even cleaner results and minimize product loss.
- Continuous and automatic operation: extraction takes place automatically, without interruptions to the production process.
- Robust and durable structure: engineered to withstand even the most demanding working conditions.
- Low maintenance: designed to operate in harsh conditions with minimal routine maintenance. It is sufficient to periodically check the bearing lubrication and the condition of the rotating cylinder (drum shell).
- Application versatility: suitable for a wide range of materials (plastic, glass, wood, mixed waste, MSW, aggregates, paper, and WEEE), the sorters can be configured for different working contexts and required purity levels.
