Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) treatment
WEEE treatment plants handle end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment: computers, household appliances, smartphones, televisions, and much more. These products contain a wide variety of materials, including a significant presence of metals. In addition to common ferrous metals, there are aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, and light alloys, as well as precious metals such as gold, silver, and palladium. Hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, or cadmium are also often present.
Managing metals in WEEE is a complex challenge: on the one hand, it is essential to prevent the dispersion of toxic contaminants; on the other, valuable metals must be recovered, as they represent a strategic economic resource. The presence of non-separated metallic fragments can damage shredders and sorting lines, slow down production, compromise the quality of recyclable fractions, and—if not recovered—cause a significant loss of value. For this reason, magnetic technologies play a central role.
